This piece was part of my solo show 'Breathe Again', which was supposed to be in April 2020. It was originally entitled 'Breathe', paying homage to the amazing power of human breath, and the practise of breathwork. However when Covid broke out the show was postponed and retitled to reflect the opportunity posed by the looseinging restrictions to literally breathe again. The show was curated in a way that reflected the psychological phases of lockdown - from the initial 'GASP' (feelings of panic, uncertainty, shock), 'HOLD' (tension, paralysis, statism, expectancy), 'EXHALE' (adapting, relaxing, letting go) and finally 'BREATHE AGAIN' (relative emotional and physical freedom and beginning to embrace a 'new normal').
This piece was inspired by textures on the sides of boats that I saw whilst walking along the canal in Bath on my daily walk.
