PAINT LIKE YOU NEVER DREAMED YOU COULD

A two-day weekend course in an artist’s studio on a city farm (complete with goats and donkeys and a cafe)

Ever dreamed of painting something bold and expressive, wild and free? Designed for all levels, even complete beginners, this course will help you unleash your creativity, work big, and walk away with an original artwork you never thought you could create.

Rather than prescribing a certain style of painting, I help each individual express themselves honestly and authentically (sometimes this means meeting creative blocks along the way, that’s normal!) with a smattering of techniques and approaches that I’ve found helpful in my own practise.

There is no gate-keeping here; I am passionate about sharing what I know with anyone who’s interested. Creativity is life-force and we need more of it in this world!

Create Your Own Large-Scale Masterpiece

Georgie is a truly incredible practitioner and created such a fun, free and positive space for creativity. Her generosity with ideas, equipment and time knows no bounds! I had never painted on such a large scale before but Georgie was so supportive throughout and had so many brilliant and novel suggestions.
If you have always wanted to make something big but dont have the space or materials then you can't do better than this course.

What to Expect

Before we start I will send you a Dreaming Pack, where you get to journal around Creative blocks and then fill your mind with inspiration, words, songs, pictures, until you’re so inspired that you can’t wait to come and channel it all into the painting.

Both days we’ll begin with some ‘right-brain’ Creative Mindfulness exercises to help you tune into your unconscious and out of your head, and to open up the senses. Nature, mindfulness and the odd poetry reading will be weaved into both days, and you will of course have a chance to stroke and feed the animals!

On Day 1 We will make two or three initial mock-ups on paper, with paint, pastels and textures to use as our prototype. Then we will create the initial textural layers on the canvas and maybe start painting some base layers in.

On Day 2  We get stuck in! I’ll show you how to use lots of different tools and techniques. Don’t worry if you feel nervous about the large canvas; it’s actually a very freeing experience working big because you can’t get too lost in detail. You’ll explore materials such as mud, sand, recycled packaging as well as the usual acrylics, pastels, charcoal etc. We’ll switch between looking at the canvas from afar and up close to achieve a perfect balance between detail and initial impact. It’s really all a big fun experiment, and it’s extremely helpful to have that attitude, I’ve found.

Motivation The course is as much about slowing down and fostering a sense of presence, compassion and trust in oneself as creating a finished masterpiece. Because (not despite) of this, most people leave with a finished piece that they love so much they get framed and hang.

What can be achieved in just two days? Watch a reel of Giovanni (who had never painted before) creating an absolute beauty for his house in Italy, in just eight hours! Giovanni had a great mindset, he let himself get into the flow and didn’t overthink it…
