I’m an artist and Creativity guide based on a city farm in East London.

At the heart of both sides of my practice - making art (I Create) and guiding others to make it (You Create) - is the same belief: that the unconscious knows more than the mind does; that the deepest truths about ourselves are arrived at by following curiosity, and that self-knowledge is key to a peaceful life. As Jung wrote, "until you make the unconscious conscious, it will rule your life and you'll call it fate." For me, art is how that making-conscious happens.

My own art practice is intuitive and process-led. I let my curiosity take me wherever it wants - to the foreshore of the Thames to mudlark for materials, to an oyster island in Portugal - without knowing why. The meaning comes afterwards: retrospectively I realised being drawn to dig beneath the surface of the shoreline was a kind of metaphor: unearthing broken, buried fragments and recontextualising them into something whole and visible. My work became a form of therapy - making myself whole. 

What unites my work isn't a consistent aesthetic or material (though I am consistently drawn to the organic, unearthed and fragmented), it's an archaeology of soul. The work speaks from somewhere deeper than the mind. As Elizabeth Gilbert puts it, "the universe buries strange jewels deep within us and then stands back to see if we can find them."

When I work with others, I'm not teaching a technique - I actually don't say I teach at all. I help people listen to their own unconscious, follow their own curiosity, and see what wants to be expressed. I Create and You Create are two expressions of the same thing: using art to dig beneath the surface and find the strange jewels hidden there.
